Tuning is essential to maintaining the life of any stringed instrument, due to tension from the strings. It is especially important with an instrument that has the tremendous amount of force and tension as in a piano. Routine tuning ensures the piano will sound its best and keeps a balance between the metal plate and the wooden structure. This creates longevity in the instrument, as well as keeps costs down. It takes much longer to tune a badly out of tune piano than a piano that is close to a good tuning.
Do you have sticking keys? Does the upper register sound very faint, no matter how hard you strike the keys? Maybe, some notes don’t sound at all? These and a multitude of other issues can arise when your piano is in need of some regulating work. Regulating a piano is resetting the action and other mechanical parts to as close as possible to new. Some artists prefer their piano to sound and feel slightly different, this can all be accomplished through the regulating process.
This can become a very lengthy and detailed conversation. Restoration can be a blemish in the finish, restringing, a full-scale restoration and so much more. My suggestion would be to call or email me with issues and concerns and we can go from there.
